"Hb X-axis; von Willebrand Multimers: Electrophoresis new applications"

Hemoglobin by capillary electrophoresis: use of the X-axis improves presumptive identification of hemoglobin variants

  • SPEAKER: David KEREN, University of Michigan, Ann Harbor, USA
  • DESCRIPTION: David KEREN will present his work on the use of relative migration positions of hemoglobin variants using capillary electrophoresis method. He will explain how this innovative approach can improve the ability of capillary electrophoresis to distinguish between two closely migrating variants and therefore allow for more accurate presumptive identification of those variants. 

Role and importance of von Willebrand factor multimers analysis in the diagnosis of patients at risk of bleeding disorders

  • SPEAKER: Doris RICOTTA, University of Brescia, Brescia, Italy
  • DESCRIPTION: Doris Ricotta will talk about his experience in the classification of hereditary and acquired forms of von Willebrand Disease (vWD) at the Hospital “Spedali Civili” of Brescia and the need of an appropriate diagnosis and therapy. She will also present the impact of the time-consuming “homemade” electrophoretic procedure, (normally performed in few reference laboratories) on patient management and laboratory organization.

 

 

Sebia von Willebrand Multimers Hydragel test: introduction to a new within-day assay

  • SPEAKER: Georges NOUADJE, Gel electrophoresis R&D, Evry, France
  • DESCRIPTION: Georges NOUADJE will present a new commercial within day assay currently in development, for the efficient separation and visualization of von Willebrand Multimers on agarose gel electrophoresis. The preliminary assay performances as well as its ease-of-use (short turn-around time, no blotting) will be presented.
